Scientists trace 19 living relatives of Ötzi the Iceman whose 5,300-year-old body was found frozen in the Alps

Scientists in Austria have found 19 living  descendants of a prehistoric iceman whose 5,300-year-old body was found frozen  in the Alps.

Researchers from the Institute of Legal  Medicine at Innsbruck Medical University took DNA samples from blood donors in  Tyrol in the west of the country.

They managed to match a particular genetic  mutation with that of Ötzi, whose body was discovered back in 1991.Descendants: Scientists have found 19 living relatives of Ötzi the Iceman who was found frozen in the Alps

“Since mankind’s beginning, in every civilization, human beings have found ways to alter their consciousness in search of something “greater” than everyday reality. To this end, we have indulged in and experimented with all manner of frightening, toxic, even potentially lethal substances, in many different rituals.
ANCIENT DRUGS delves into mankind’s psyche in search of the key to our pervasive drive to experience something “beyond.” Psychologists and physicians, including Dr. Andrew Weil, world-famous author of the bestselling Spontaneous Healing, offer insight into the physical and mental mechanisms and motivations behind this universal desire. Historians and spiritualists explore the ancient rituals of cultures worldwide that have sought visions and truth through altered consciousness, and illuminate the terrifying, exquisite visions that are revealed to those who journey beyond the constraints of the conscious mind.”

Story of Human Evolution

21 Oct

“Broadcast (2005) It has long been considered the most compelling question in our history: Where do human beings come from? Although life has existed for millions of years, only in the past century and a half have we begun to use science to explore the ancestral roots of our own species. The search for the ultimate answer has taken a number of twists and turns, with careers made and broken along the way. Ape to Man is the story of the quest to find the origins of the human race a quest that spanned more than 150 years of obsessive searching The search for the origins of humanity is a story of bones and the tales they tell.

It was in 1856 that the first bones of an extinct human ancestor were encountered, unearthed by a crew of unskilled laborers digging for limestone in Western Europe. The find, which would be known as Neanderthal Man, was seeing the light of day for the first time in more than 40,000 years. At the time, the concept of a previous human species was virtually unthinkable. Yet just a few years later, Charles Darwin’s work The Origin of Species first broached the subject of evolution, and by the end of the nineteenth century, it had become the hottest topic of the age.”

Race – the Power of an Illusion

10 Aug

The division of the world’s peoples into distinct groups – “red,” “black,” “white” or “yellow” peoples – has became so deeply imbedded in our psyches, so widely accepted, many would promptly dismiss as crazy any suggestion of its falsity. Yet, that’s exactly what this provocative, new three-hour series by California Newsreel claims. Race – The Power of an Illusion questions the very idea of race as biology, suggesting that a belief in race is no more sound than believing that the sun revolves around the earth.

Yet race still matters. Just because race doesn’t exist in biology doesn’t mean it isn’t very real, helping shape life chances and opportunities.

The Genographic Project is a five-year-long (2005-2010) study funded by National Geographic and IBM to collect human DNA from people all over the world, and analyze those data to determine the various general pathways humans took out of Africa.

Human beings evolved in Africa about 160,000 years ago, and lived only in Africa until around 60,000 years ago when we started to emigrate, in little groups, in different directions. There is evidence of a couple of false starts before that—Skhul Cave in Israel and Jwalapuram in India—but they don’t seem to have left DNA evidence among us
